Manchester United is partly to blame for Liverpool's scoring woes, according to Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds have experienced a downturn in their goal-scoring prowess as the season nears its conclusion.

Despite registering a remarkable 23 attempts, including seven shots on target, per Sofascore, in their latest Premier League fixture against Everton, they failed to find the net and suffered a 2-0 defeat in the Merseyside Derby.

This scoring struggle is not isolated to their recent match; rather, it has been a recurring theme in their performances over the past few games.

Klopp blames Man United for scoring woes

Klopp identifies the Premier League clash against Manchester United on April 7 as the starting point of this trend.

Despite making 28 attempts on goal, with only seven on target in the said game, Liverpool managed to score twice but were unable to secure a victory against Erik ten Hag's side.

Explaining at a press conference following his side's loss to Everton, which dealt a huge blow to their title chances, the German tactician said, as quoted by Tribuna:

"You can see we are in a rush in front of the goal, you can see that. It’s long ago but I blame a little bit the United game for it; that many chances and you play really good but you don’t get anything for it."
"That’s really bad. Since then, we create, but we don’t score often enough, and that doesn’t help. It’s not like in a situation like that, you don’t score and then just [think], ‘Ah, forget it, who cares?’

Klopp apologises after Everton defeat

Sports Brief also reported that Liverpool's aspirations for the Premier League title suffered a significant blow on Wednesday following their 2-0 defeat to the Toffees in a crucial match at Goodison Park.

Manager Jurgen Klopp assumed responsibility for the defeat, extending an apology to the Liverpool supporters in the aftermath of the disappointing loss.

In a post-match interview, Klopp empathised with the fans, expressing, "I truly empathize with the supporters. I am genuinely sorry for the outcome."
