English-born Ghanaian, Josh-Kofi Acheampong, has made his senior debut for English giants Chelsea in their Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspurs.

The 17-year-old, born to Ghanaian parents in England, replaced Alfie Gilchrist with five minutes remaining as Chelsea defeated Tottenham 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Trevoh Chalobah and Nicolas Jackson scored on either side of the half as the Blues continued their recent resurgence in the Premier League.

Acheampong showed glimpses of quality in the few minutes he was on the pitch, endearing himself to the Chelsea faithful.

"Proud moment for me and my family to make my Chelsea debut, a moment I have dreamed of for a long time. Thank you to the coaches for putting their trust in me and the fans for their continued support," an excited Acheampong wrote on Instagram after his debut.

Acheampong has represented England at the youth level and was part of the U17 team at the 2023 FIFA World Cup in Indonesia. He was one of the best players at the competition, helping England reach the knockout stages.

The 17-year-old could represent Ghana at international level due to his parents heritage.

Who is Josh-Kofi Acheampong?

The 17-year-old signed his first professional contract with the Blues in January 2024, having progressed through the youth ranks. He joined the London club at the U8 level, developing through the various levels to the U18.

His eye-catching performances saw him ink a professional deal in January, with other clubs lurking around for his signature.

"With experience as a central defender, a full-back and at wing-back, Josh has a fantastic attitude towards developing further and is strong mentally. These qualities have also been identified internationally as he represented England at Under-16 level in the 2021/22 season," wrote Chelsea on their official website.

Jackson breaks Drogba's record in Spurs win

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Senegal forward, Nicolas Jackson broke Drogba's first-season goal tally after scoring in Chelsea's 2-0 victory over Tottenham on Thursday.

Jackson has received massive criticism for being wasteful in front of goal this season, with fans unhappy with his first-season output.

However, the former Villareal star seems to be discovering his goal-scoring form after netting his 11th of the campaign against Spurs.
