After a series of unpleasant results, sources now say that Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is set to face a 25% salary cut if he will stay at Old Trafford next season.

With no hopes of playing in the Champions League next season, ten Hag, who landed at United in May 2022 from Ajax, will have a difficult time proving to Red Devils's management that he is up to the task of the job.

Despite securing a second consecutive spot in the FA Cup finals after seeing off Championship Coventry in a penalty shoot-out, ten Hag's men were not convincing at all, as they conceded three goals in the final minutes of the match.

According to Sources, United management, led by minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has been looking out for possible options for ten Hag, with England national team coach, Gareth Southgate, Brighton Manager Roberto De Zerbi, Brentford's Thomas Frank and Wolves' Gary O'Neil among those touted as possible successors.

Be that as it may, even with the kind of results, ESPN reports that there is a likelihood ten Hag could continue at the Theatre of Dreams beyond the summer.

Ten Hag to take pay cut to keep United

However, this will come at a price for the former Ajax boss.

Reports claim that if a 25% salary cut is effected, ten Hag, who now earns £9 million a year ($11.2m), is likely to keep his Old Trafford job.

This would see his salary scale drop to £6.75m, with even a less appealing compensation package.

Meanwhile, there is still hope for United to finish in the top four as they have six games to play before the end of the season.

United thrashed Sheffield United 4-2 in their Wednesday fixture with goals from Harry Maguire, Bruno Fernandes, and Rasmus Hojlund, keeping their slim hopes of sealing a Champions League spot alive.

Man United make decision on ten Hag's future

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Man United reportedly making a decision on sacking ten Hag before the FA Cup final.

The Red Devils are scheduled to play rivals Manchester City in the final of the tournament.
